There is a video that Thorston Bronger posted on how to figure out the numbers needed to create a lens profile. But he's had a note up for some time that he has that on ice at the minute. The initial post had a link to Thorston Bronger's web page where he offers to create profiles for anyone who sends him enough pictures. But I couldn't really understand why there are so few Minolta lenses in the tables. I was able to tweak photos using the Tamron sister profile for this lens.

So I'm trying my hand with LensFun in Darktable after shooting a bunch of shots full frame with Minolta 17-35mm F2.8-4. Fellow converts will appreciate what I am saying. I've just got back calibration files for the DT 35mm f1.8 and DT 50mm f1.8 after sending the calibration images a couple days ago and the results with Darktable look near perfect. Ensuring a flat field for the vignetting calibration may be the most difficult part, but I found the white ceiling with natural daylight in my living room to be very satisfactory.

However here is the good bit - if you shoot a series of calibration images for any lens and send them off to Torsten Bronger, then a suitable calibration file will appear in your inbox after a couple of days. Unfortunately the list of supported lenses is rather limited. The list of supported lenses may be found here. It is not supported by Rawtherapee which however does support Adobe profiles. Lensfun is a library providing facilities for correction of vignetting, distortion and transverse CA that is used by several image processing applications including a Gimp plugin and Darktable. (may also apply to these tools on MAC or Windows) Just a bit of a heads up for anybody that uses Linux and Gimp, Darktable, Digikam etc.
